Every year SUN’s move to Capricorn is late by (20 minutes) because of expansion of Universe in gradual manner.
Hence SUN gets 01 hour late in 03 years & 24 hours (one day ) late in 72 years.
This is the reason why Makar sankrati date is to be retarded by one day after every 72 years.
From 2014 its falling on 15 Jan & will continue to be so on ( every 15 Jan ) till 2086.
By celebrating Makar Sakranti on a fixed date for 72 years , We have started thinking that it is fixed.
Its not so & also the festival of Lohri which is to be celebrated a day prior to Makar Sankranti should now be observed on 14 Jan instead of 13 Jan.
