Shiny morning arrives daily after the dark gloomy night rolls on….and today it seems that golden rays of sunshine, dewdrops over green grass and melodies of chirping of birds all signifying a new inning for Anu and her daughter Ridhi .

All, three of them looked at Ridhi who was receiving the Sword of Honor, the highest award given to a cadet in the Officer’s Training Academy (OTA) of the Indian Army.

Anu was over the moon while her husband was slouching in his wheel chair and mother in- law was filled with guilt, the guilt of almost murdering her granddaughter, Ridhi.

She remembered the day when her best friend, a doctor, told the whole family that they are expecting a girl and nobody supported her for being mother of a girl.

As expected anger fueled by her answer to welcome the baby in the world, he banished Anu out of the house.

In many parts of India, it is still common the birth of a girl child is not welcomed and, she faces discrimination, humiliation, and oppression at every stage of life.

The day is commemorated to remind global community that lets us work together to eliminate all forms of discrimination, exploitation and violence against girl child and empower them, respect them and to promote and protect their right.
