Holi is the festival of colors. It is one of the most important and biggest festivals of India. We wait for this festival for the whole year eagerly to have fun with colors. We also get a chance to meet our near and dear ones and play holi with them. Families also prepare delicious dishes for this day.

Holi is the Hindu Festival and it is celebrated each year in the month of March with full enthusiasm. It brings so much happiness that we forget our worries and involve in the festival preparations to celebrate with friends and families. I can say that, in other words, we forget our hate feelings and get into the festival spirit.

In the face of Corona Virus Threat, Its Holi, our favorite festival, we all want to be safe and celebrate holi. specially children, they waited whole year for this festival. We are alert, which is safe to take extra precautions. But everyone rushed to buy masks and sanitizers in bulk, which created shortage of these products in the market. Still somewhere I feel masks are not so safe, as it will get contaminated easily and we can not replace daily. Instead follow simple home solutions to avoid infections. Number of corona virus affected people increasing daily. So we want to be safe now from it. Here are few Tips:

1. Make maximum use of warm water, as it will destroy virus.

2. Always wash your hands with warm water.

3. Drink plenty of warm water.

4. Stay in warm room temperature above 28 degrees

5. Cover your mouth with a handkerchief soaked in warm water. Change everyday and wash it daily with warm water.

6. Also wash your clothes with warm water as well.

Holi is known as the festival of colors because we play with different colors comes in powdered form (Gulal) by applying to each other’s faces.  The idea is to be ecstatic and get colored in the essence of the festival. Our vibrant colored face look so fresh, it brings joy and happiness. Many people enjoy dance and drink a special beverage called the ‘bhaang’.

Safety Measures To Play Holi

Let’s make the festival safe and celebrate with an extra dose of precautions for yourself and your loved ones and your surroundings.

While playing with colors, we should be extra careful. While knowing the state of the time today, be aware of consequences and one should not do anything which might hurt physically. Chemical Powders are easily available in the market which might look like original Gulal but it has harmful chemicals and damages your skin.

It’s recommended to buy herbal | natural | non-toxic colors made from vegetables or natural products. These herbal colors are eco-friendly and easily washable make Holi hassle-free. Add to that, they don’t do any harm on our skin. So, Always buy from renowned shop and check for trademark.

Furthermore, cover your body. Wear full sleeves shirts and full length bottoms to cover and protect your skin. Make sure what you wear during the festival there will be less of skin exposed.

Apply cold cream or oil to your skin which is left. You can use various products available in the market like boroline, vaseline, olive oil, coconut oil, mustard oil on face and hands. The oil will not let the harmful colors penetrate deep into your skin.

To protect eyes, you should wear shades/glasses. It looks fashionable too! Always, wash your eyes with clean and cold water and if there is some kind of irritation visit an eye specialist.

Add to that, Apply oil to your hair thoroughly. The colors don’t stick to your hair and can be washed off easily.

For females, you can apply nail polish, to keep your nails safe from the harm of toxic colors. Moreover, applying a makeup on your face is also a good idea to protect it.

Holi is also meant for the festival of delicious dishes. There are many foods items, whereas, gujiya, dahi bhalle, and thandai are the most popular ones.

Children love the fun of Holi. It’s their time to enjoy some legally allowed mischief, drenched in colors and getting wet. If we are not careful children can harm themselves. We must be little more careful and take precautions to avoid any harm. Don’t let any accident spoil the fun.   1. Give Respect and Take Respect. We should teach our children to behave properly. There’s a difference in playful mischief and troublesome acts.
  2. Be Alert. Keep a watch on your child’s activity. Always be with them, never leave them alone.

  4. Teach your child to use water guns or balloons safely. Try your best to avoid. But if you can’t, then teach them not to aim at face because it could damage ears or eyes and lead to health issues like blindness or loss of hearing.
  5. Tell them to close eyes and mouth while applying colors on face. This could prevent colors to penetrate inside the eyes or mouth. Keep fresh water ready, so that you can wash your child’s face when needed.

Never rub your skin forcibly to remove colors. After playing Holi, it comes the difficult part of removing color from your skin. Don’t force or rub vigorously to remove colors, it may cause damage to your skin results in irritation or rashes.

Buy some flowers from market, select nice and bright colored. Like roses or rose petals, pink nerium, marigold, and chrysanthemums. For green color, you can use henna. Then pluck petals of all the flowers and keep them to dry in sun. Keep each color separate. Children love this activity. You can involve them too. It will take a few days for them to dry out completely. When fully dried, Grind each set of petals separately and make a powder form. Store it in separate containers. Surprise everyone with your creativity.
