A new coronavirus | SARS-CoV-2 is spreading across the globe. Its becoming a threat to humans. Day-by-day infected peoples count increasing and there’s no sign of relief. People stopped going out, multinational companies asked their employees to work from home, schools are closed, children forced to stay at home.

Here’s what you need to know about the virus and the disease it causes, called COVID-19. It has declared Pandemic by WHO. It has created a terror among people. Even normal flu is taken seriously. It’s time to be alert and take right Precautions. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing and can mislead people into thinking that they are more experts which can lead to mistakes. First and foremost, know about what is Coronovirus?

What is CoronaVirus?

Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases. It is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans. Coronaviruses are zoonotic, meaning they are transmitted between animals and people. The novel coronavirus, now called SARS-CoV-2, causes the disease COVID-19. The virus was first identified in Wuhan, China, on Dec. 31, 2019. Since then, it has spread to every continent except Antarctica.

What is Pandemic?

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), a pandemic is declared when a new disease spreads around the world beyond expectations.

The WHO has declared the Coronavirus Crisis as a pandemic and said Italy and Iran were on the front-line of the disease. More than 126,100 people have been infected globally and over 4000 people have died due to this virus. Meanwhile, over 1,500 people are under observation. In India we have 74 positive cases of coronavirus as on date 12th March 2020.

Moreover, earlier in 2003, we had Sars Coronavirus identified. It infected 26 countries including China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Canada. But still it was not declared Pandemic.

“The use of this term however highlights the importance of countries throughout the world working cooperatively and openly with one another and coming together as a united front in our efforts to bring this situation under control.”

Here’s how you could catch COVID-19.

There’s is only one thing we have to understand about how a coronavirus spreads. Any normal person or healthy person get into the virus from droplets left in the air by the sick person through the normal person’s eyes, nose, mouth and hands.

CoronaVirus Symptoms

Coronavirus symptoms are generally mild and most people recover within six days. Common signs of infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death.

Coronavirus can mimic the flu or even a common cold. This Virus may not show any symptoms for many days, how one can know if he/she is infected. By the time they have fever and/or cough and goes to the hospital, the lungs is usually 50 % Fibrosis and it’s too late!

The disease appears to become more severe with the 30 to 79 year old age range pre-dominating the detected cases in Wuhan, where the outbreak began, according to a study in JAMA. Children seem to be at less risk of suffering disease.

Here’s a simple self-check that we can do every morning:

Take a deep breath and hold your breath for more than 10 seconds. If you complete it, successfully without coughing, without discomfort, stuffiness or tightness etc it proves there is no fibrosis in the lungs, basically indicating no infection. Please self-check every morning in an environment with clean air!

Basic Precautions from the corona Virus

Standard recommendations to prevent infection spread include regular hand washing, covering mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, thoroughly cooking meat and eggs. Avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing.

Do Not touch anything

So whenever we see someone visibly coughing/sneezing/sick, we should keep our distance 2 meters to 5 meters will keep us safe from large droplets. People who are infected can show no symptoms, but are still infectious so it’s better to avoid crowds and gatherings because it is not known who might be sick. In unavoidable situation, we can use mask or other protective measures.

We will get into virus by touching common things like pens, door knobs, mouse, electrical switches, table/chairs, lift buttons, stairs banister’s digital devices and even on the outside of our face mask which are already infected and if we touch any of these things by accident and then touch our face/rub eyes or our loved ones face, virus can lasts up to 48 hrs on objects.

Wash your hands with soap regularly

Avoid Touching your face again & again

Use Handkerchief or Tissue for coughing

Always use warm water for Hand wash

CoronaVirus has caused shortage of sanitizers. What should you do?

We are living in the face of Corona Virus Threat. We all want to be safe and alert, which is better to take extra precautions. But what happened, everyone rushed to buy masks and sanitizers in bulk, which created shortage of these products in the market. Still somewhere I feel masks are not so safe, as it will get contaminated easily and we cannot replace daily. Also, Sanitizers are not so safe too as after applying sanitizers it’s recommended that one should not eat anything. What’s the purpose then? Instead follow simple home solutions to avoid infections. Number of corona virus affected people increasing daily. So everyone wants to be safe now from it.

Here are few Tips:

1. Make maximum use of warm water, as it will destroy virus.

2. Always wash your hands with warm water.

3. Drink plenty of warm water.

4. Stay in warm room temperature above 28 degrees

5. Cover your mouth with a handkerchief soaked in warm water. Change every day and wash it daily with warm water.

6. Also wash your clothes with warm water as well.

Doctors treating COVID-19 cases, recommends everyone should ensure your mouth & throat is moist, never DRY. Take a few sips of water after every 15 mins at least. WHY?  Even if the virus gets into your mouth…drinking water or other liquids will WASH them down through your esophagus and into the stomach. Your stomach ACID will kill the virus.

It’s better to take preventive measures rather than finding a cure after getting infected. . .!

Scientists aren’t certain where the virus originated, though they know that coronaviruses (which also include SARS and MERS) are passed between animals and humans.

Research comparing the genetic sequence of SARS-CoV-2 with a viral database suggests it originated in bats. Since no bats were sold at the seafood market in Wuhan at the disease’s epicenter, researchers suggest an intermediate animal, possibly the pangolin (an endangered mammal) is responsible for the transmission to humans.

There are currently no treatments for the disease, but labs are working on various types of treatments, including a vaccine.

Till then Don’t Panic, Be safe . . !!
